With jokes that keep the whole audience laughing and an interesting plot throughout the whole film, “The Skeleton Twins” makes a great movie.
Directed by Craig Johnson, “The Skeleton Twins” is a dramedy with much more positive aspects than negative. The phenomenal acting and interesting storyline is just a couple of features that made this movie great.
This dramedy revolves around Maggie (Kristen Wiig), an unhappy married woman, and her twin brother Milo (Bill Hader), a depressed man. Johnson’s film tells a story about how these suicidal twins begin to depend on one another to overcome their horrendous past and pessimistic futures. Maggie and Milo’s presence with each other is enough to help them get their lives together and forgot about their depressing past.
This film’s success comes from its ability to tell a dark, but loving family tale that manages to stay on one point throughout its runtime. Johnson creates a comedy with an interesting story that keeps viewers anxious to know what happens next.
Another positive aspect of this film is how great Wiig and Hader play their roles. Both of them play their role worthy of an Oscar because they acted as if they were actually experiencing all of Maggie and Milo’s problems in real life. They portrayed Maggie and Milo’s character with using their attitude and emotion.
Johnson also makes this movie better by thoroughly developing each character. He shows their significance to the movie by explaining their past, which helps viewers obtain a better understanding of the characters as a whole.
The one negative aspect that stood out in this movie was the order in which the scenes were placed. The movie begins with Milo and Maggie, both depressed middle-aged adults ready to commit suicide, which left viewers clueless on why they were depressed. The beginning is confusing because there is no background information on the characters, but as the movie progressed the reason for the character actions becomes clearer.
All in all “The Skeleton Twins” was an excellent movie from the beginning to the end. Its unique, humorous approach to a difficult topic ended up making an interesting yet funny movie.
“The Skeleton Twins” is rated R and is currently playing in select theaters.
