This summer, the Mira Costa Aquatics Board began renovations on the campus’s aquatic buildings.
These updates in progress include new pool equipment, sporting equipment, audio equipment, and signage. There will also be renovations to both the pool building and deck area. Funds for the renovation are to be supplied by the Aquatic boosters as well as the City of Manhattan Beach.
“Now that the City has full use of the pool and even an office on the pool deck, they will be contributing to changes in the future,” Aquatics President Eric Stroman said.
The upcoming renovations will include screening the air conditioning units on the roof. The screens will be half walls on the roof and will provide a surface to hang CIF championship banners. On the southwest wall of the pool deck the plan is to pay tribute to the past Costa athletes, making a “Hall of Fame” wall to display alumni aquatics athletes that have have gone on to be All Americans, NCAA champions and Olympians. The Aquatics Board has added a historian to aid in the process.
“We will be acknowledging all swimmers and water polo players both male and female who have achieved some sort of greatness,” Aquatics Secretary Dan Brannan said. “The hope is that this wall will perpetuate the legacy and history of all the important athletes who come out of Costa’s aquatics program.”
These renovation projects are meant to create more interest in aquatic programs from incoming students. All updates are planned to be completed by the end of the 2014-2015 school year.
“There is no question in my mind that this is the beginning of a major shift in the future of the program,” said water polo athlete Gage Stroman. “By teaming up with the alumni we are going to get some great exposure.”
