Broken glass, loud thunder, and screams for help is all you can hear in Sam Miller’s thrilling film “No Good Deed.”
Director Sam Miller put together a suspenseful film that has the audience looking for answers at every moment. Although “No Good Deed” is hindered by a predictable plot, the film has a skillful cast and contains much suspense.
Collin Evans (Idris Elba) is convicted for manslaughter, and as he breaks free from prison he finds his ex fiancé cheating on him. He then kills her and sets out to her lover’s house. There he finds Terri (Taraji Henson) and her two daughters alone and vulnerable in the middle of a storm. As his rage takes hold of him, he goes insane and tries to get revenge.
This film lacks an entertaining plot due to its unoriginality. Although the audience is usually on the edge of their seats, the plot is predictable, and the audience knows when something bad is going to happen. With many clues like the violins becoming louder and faster the suspense is toned down.
Elba uses his physical stature to appear intimidating and mysterious. Elba is perfect for this role, as he uses his manipulative personality to create suspicion. For example, he scares Terri into listening to him due to his size and strength.
Henson is fantastic at keeping the viewers rooting for her survival as she uses her edgy wits and determination to fight for her life. For example, when she outsmarts Collin to think she ran outside.
Together, Henson and Elba make this action packed film enjoyable to watch. Although the actors are very talented at creating suspense, credit has to be given to Miller for making it to where Terri couldn’t run due to her children and the weather causing even more tension and drama.
This film is exceptional, as it has a capable cast and talented director who do all they can to entertain with a script that is stagnant and predictable.
“No Good Deed’ is rated R and available in theaters nationwide.
