Sept 26, Mira Costa Boys water polo competed in the first day of the prestigious AFC Invitational water polo tournament. The boys played two games and defeated both Bonita High School, and later La Jolla High School. The mustangs started out strong in the beginning of the tournament and kept the fire going all day.
The first game Mira Costa Played was against Bonita High School, the boys had a very strong victory with a score of 17-3. Costa was able to start on fire and keep the ball rolling having a strong lead against Bonita the entire game.Goals were scored by Brandon Lavinsky, Antonis Nahabed, Jack Allen, Jake Tolt, Cole Horton, Derrick Compas, Christian Thortan, Andrew Todd, Lucas Brannan, Jack Heagy, Finn Pardon, Kurt Hoffmann, and Dylan Linnell. There was a total of 9 goals which were blocked by Nick Dale, Adam Zaun, and Anders Kaykin.The second game Mira Costa played was against La Jolla High School the game had a score of 14-7. Costa came out of the gates with an explosive first quarter with a score of 5-1 and never looked back for the rest of the game. Nick Dale was able to block 12 goals while the defense and offense stayed strong.
Costa will remain playing in the AFC invitational tomorrow with a game against Cerritos High School at 9 in the morning.If Costa wins their third game of the tournament they will advance to the semi finals.
