Mira Costa English teacher, Stacy Cabrera, is hitting a homerun on the web. A baseball lover at heart, Cabrera has converted her passion into an internet blog.

Cabrera’s father inspired her interest to create a blog. Her father was a huge baseball fan and played the sport up until college. Cabrera started her blog in 2007, and converted it to Twitter the beginning of the last school year.

“Baseball was very important to my dad and eventually became a special connection we shared,” Cabrera said.

Cabrera began her baseball career on an online blog. According to Cabrera, the constant maintenance caused her to convert her blog to Twitter, which enables her to access the account on her phone. She offers students extra credit for following her account on Twitter.

“Ms. Cabrera’s blog is great,” senior Wyatt Wiggins said. “It’s a fantastic source for someone who doesn’t always have time to watch the game.”

As Cabrera converted to Twitter, she was surprised to see the instant reaction from people. Twitter opened her eyes to a whole new world of baseball and got her even more involved.

“I had an immediate interest with my followers,” Cabrera said. “Most of my baseball time is now spent on twitter. I have had conversations with ESPN writers and even players.”

Cabrera’s love for baseball has transferred into her classroom as well. In her classroom, she has Angel’s gear and other decor. Cabrera hopes to keep up her Twitter page and have the latest updates of stats, players, and livefeed during games.

“If I like something, I jump in 110%,” Cabrera said. “I hope to keep this up. It’s a way for me to participate with my dad even though he’s gone.”
