With holidays around the corner, local festivities such as fairs, traditions, and activities approach into the community.

The American Martyrs School will be holding their Annual Parish Fair on October 18th and 19th. The Parish Fair will have booths full of food, games as well as children’s rides on the soccer field. The fair serves to gather the community and raise money for the school.

“It was my favorite part of October other than Halloween,” former AMS student sophomore Haley Viviani said. “When I was little, I spent all of my parents money at that fair and it was a great way to spend time with my family.”

This will be the 44th year American Martyrs holds the Parish Fair. Families all over our town look forward to the fair every year, making it an anticipated tradition.

“There is something for everyone at the fair,” Parish Fair Chair Jen Atler-Ammazzalorso said. “The point of the fair is about faith, and the gathering friends and family.”

Along with all the booths, there will be a silent auction that is hosted by Lucky 21, which gives each customer one out of 21 chances to win a prize. Some prizes include a new 2014 Volkswagon Convertable Beetle and $5000.

“I think it would be pretty cool to win the auction,” sophomore Steve Sandoval said. “The auction seems like such a good fundraiser for the school since ticket prices are so reasonable.”

Parishioners, AMS students and parents, and Manhattan Beach residents mostly run the booth. However, students outside of the school, including Costa students, can come to work. Working in the booths can help some earn volunteer hours.

“We have many volunteers helping us at the fair from all over town,” Atler-Ammazzalorso said. “It is a chance for volunteers to bring families together in addition to earning volunteer hours.”

This year, the fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The fair will be held in the American Martyrs parking lot.

“The fair is very fun because all the kids are laughing with their parents and everyone is having a good time,” Sandoval said. “It’s something I like to visit and go to with my friends.”
