Swedish pop singer, Tove Lo, proves to be more than just a one-hit wonder with the release of her impressive debut album, “Queen of the Clouds.”

The album establishes Tove Lo as a passionate and capable up-and-coming artist. The record proves to be a stunning collection of pop songs divided into a unique structure with punchy choruses, powerful instruments, and emotional lyrics.

Tove Nilsson is a Swedish singer, songwriter, and musician from Stockholm, Sweden. The 26-year-old graduated from the prestigious Rytmus Music School in Stockholm and gained experience in the industry by writing for artists such as Cher Lloyd and Lea Michele.

Tove Lo’s widely known hit single in her new album, “Habits (Stay High),” was a Top 5 iTunes Alternative Hit and was on the U.S. Top 40. In the song, Tove Lo belts about the difficulties of a recent breakup and self-medication. The song creates emotions of love and despair with passionate vocals and mesmerizing flowing melodies.

The album is separated into three sections by three interlude 5 second tracks: “The Sex, “The Love,” and “The Pain.” Each interlude introduces the next section of tracks with a short phrase about the subject, giving insight into what each section will be about. This creative division is a simple, yet unprecedented way to format the album that makes it distinctive from any other.

In addition, the songs are emotionally relatable with sincere lyrics about love and heartbreak. Phrases like “I’m not on drugs, I’m just in love” and “You can point fingers all you want, I don’t care” show Tove Lo’s honest feelings about love and relationships. However, lyrics like these also make Tove Lo seem rebellious, showing that she clearly does not care what people think, which makes her music even more sensational and compelling to listen to. On top of all this, the fact that Tove Lo writes her own songs, unlike many popular artists, makes her music even more easily understood because it is so personal.

Every song in this album is catchier than the next because of their sing-a-long hooks and Tove Lo’s angelic vocals. Also, the choruses of the various songs on the album are all very addictive with unforgettable lyrics and toe-tapping beats that make the music even more fun to listen to.

Additionally, the incorporation of both powerful and elegant instruments give the album personality. In the track “Not on Drugs,” dramatic drums and psychedelic synths progress throughout the song, creating depth and emotion. In contrast, “This Time Around” is a euphoric piano ballad with gradual, delicate keyboard synths that make the music graceful and smooth.

“Queen of the Clouds” is charmingly produced with gripping choruses, a creative organization of the songs, genuine lyrics, and dynamic instrumentals. Tove Lo’s impressive uptempo pop songs establish her as a skilled young artist with pop star potential.

“Queen of the Clouds” was released on September 30 and is available digitally and in retail for $7.99.
