After a week full of Homecoming festivities, Mira Costa announced on Oct. 10 seniors Jack Allen and Sarah Kennedy as Homecoming king and queen.
La Vista nominated Allen (lower left), who serves as one of the editors-in-chief for the newspaper. Allen is also a four-year member of the boys water polo team. Marching Band nominated its president, Kennedy (lower right), who is also a member of National Charity League and president of Tri-M Music Honors Society.
Costa clubs and organizations nominated students for the court. Juniors and seniors then voted for the court consisting of 12 members. After a week of Homecoming spirit days, seniors then voted for the king and queen.
“I was so appreciative of everyone who gave me the opportunity to receive such an honor,” Allen said. “I was completely surprised that I was able to have an impact on so many of my peers.”
During Spirit Week, the court dressed up in themes like book characters, decades, music genres, celebrity couples and classic Disney characters. The court also participated in lunchtime activities, such as bobbing for apples and balloon popping. At the Oct. 10 pep rally, the court performed a dance that it had been rehearsing throughout the week.
“I love dressing up and going all out, so the week was a blast,” nominee Roxy Vabrey said.
During Homecoming week, students also participated in dress-up days. The themes included ‘Merica Monday, Go Team Tuesday, Waikiki Wednesday, PJ Thursday and Stampede Friday.
“I think that this year Costa had more participation for the spirit days,” Associated Student Body, historian senior Emma Zimmerman said. “Our school spirit definitely increased throughout the week. I think so many people dressed up because the themes were really creative and fun.”
This year, Mustang Morning News members seniors Sarah Keneipp and Natalie Rice made the Homecoming video that was presented at the football game. Each couple acted as different television show characters pretending to be on the reality TV show “Survivor.”
“My favorite part was definitely filming the video and seeing the Homecoming nominees really get comfortable with their characters,” Rice said.
Students continued the festivities at last Saterday’s Homecoming dance, “StageCosta,” which took place in the Fisher Gym. StageCosta, a country-themed dance, included activities such as a corn-hole toss and a western-themed photo booth. At the dance, the Homecoming video was shown again and the court performed their dance for a final time.
“ASB did a great job decorating the gym,” Kennedy said. “It was fun performing our dance again for the crowd at the dance.”
