Shante Robinson has broken nine Mira Costa track-and-field records. She went to the state finals in track and field last year. She is a leader, a teacher, and role model. And she’s only a sophomore.
Robinson has been running since she was eight years old, and is finally honing in her skills on a state and national level. A mix of endless practice and natural ability give the sophomore the record-breaking potential that she has already used nine times.
Head track Coach Maurice Russell and hurdle coach Kelvan Gamble have noticed her growth since she joined the track program at Costa. She has become not only one of Costa’s premier athletes, but one of Costa’s exemplary characters as well.
Regardless of her natural skills, her coaches push her every day to be better, faster, and more prepared for elite competition. She is putting in work routinely to ready herself for the spring showdowns to come.
She has high goals, but plenty of time to reach them, as the next three years present her with an opportunity for true greatness. In retrospect, her journey has just begun.
