This year, the Mira Costa Football team has struggled with a losing record of 2-6 due to a season plagued with injuries.
Senior running back Tre Searcy separated the acromioclavicular joint located in his shoulder after being hit in the game against Trabuco Hills on Sept. 19. As a result, Searcy was out for two weeks.
“It’s unbelievable because I’ve never had so many injuries,” Searcy said. “It’s tough because it is during my senior year.”
After recovering from his shoulder injury in the follwoing week, Searcy strained his hamstring after a mistep and was unable to play the rest of the game against Palos Verdes. The recovering Searcy played minimal minutes in the Inglewood game on Oct. 24.
“It’s challenging having Searcy out,” defensive coordinator Ray Lee said. “When you lose a guy like that, you can’t expect it to have no impact.”
To make California Interscholastic Federation, the Mustangs need to win their game against Redondo tonight.
“Searcy returning for the Redondo game this friday will open up opportunities and hopefully get us the win,” Lee said.
