The Mira Costa Girls golf team played in the California Interscholastic Federation Northern Team Qualifier on Oct. 29 at Los Serranos Golf Course. The Mustangs shot a team score of 400, earning the team second place behind Diamond Bar High School.

Costa’s tournament team consisted of juniors Marni Murez, Danielle Richman, and Veronica Chen, sophomores Ashley Kim and Lexi Nielsen and freshman Phoebe Gunn. The girls played against more than 20 teams from the South Bay and Los Angeles County area.

“I am proud of the way everyone played,” Richman said. “I am glad that I could contribute to our second place title. I hope we can continue these dominating seasons for years to come.”

Murez and Richman led the team, both shooting an even par of 74. Only the top three teams from the tournament advanced to the next round of CIF.

“We did well considering how good the first place team was,” Murez said. “We knew it was going to be a fight.”

Golf played in the CIF Women’s Southern California Golf Association Qualifying Tournament yesterday at Western Hills Golf Course, but results are unavailabe due to time of publication.

“Our ultimate goal is to make it past the third round of playoffs and qualify for the State Championship,” Murez said.
