The Mira Costa Advanced Women’s Chorale attended its annual choir retreat from Oct. 24-26 at Camp Whittle in Big Bear, California.
At the retreat, choir rehearsed for its performance at the historic First Lutheran Church of Pasadena on Oct. 26 and their upcoming performance at the Redlands Women’s Choir Festival on Nov. 20, while also participating in bonding activities.
“It seemed that as the weekend progressed, our voices became better blended and our sound grew to become bigger and fuller,” senior Malia Elson said. “A huge part of this retreat was discovering and establishing who we are as a choir.”
At the church service Oct. 26, the chorale sang “Nunc Tempus Acceptabile,” “Ave Maria” and “Zion’s Walls.”
“We provided beautiful music for worship, and our students experienced a coming together in a way that is unique and meaningful,” choir director Michael Hayden said.
At the retreat, the group also participated in a ropes course, soccer, archery, human foosball and horseshoes. According to Hayden, these games allowed the choir students to bond in a different environment, rather than just at Costa.
“The games were great, and we got to really talk to each other and learn to appreciate one another,” Elson said.
