Mira Costa’s Marching Band placed second in its 4A division on Nov. 1 at the Sierra Vista High School in Baldwin Park.
At the competition, the percussionists won first place and the color guard placed second.
“Our hard work paid off at the show,” drum major senior Ryan Cosner said. “We did better than we have ever done so far this season.”
During Marching Band’s performance, a microphone malfunction occurred due to a glitch in the power source.
“Some parts were not heard by the judges, but everyone was working hard to make the best show possible,” Marching Band member sophomore Sean Syed said.
Marching Band has been focusing on improving the character of its show by watching movie and television clips of vampires, as the theme of its show is based on vampires.
“What the adjudicators have told us is that they want to see vampires in Costa uniforms, not students pretending to be vampires,” band director Joel Carlson said.
Marching Band’s next competition will be on Nov. 15 at Savannah High School.
“We are looking at our strengths and weaknesses in order to address them as we reach the final stretch of the season,” Syed said.
