Playing baseball has been a part of junior Trevor Franklin‘s life ever since he was six years old. Recently, his hard work paid off when he committed to Pepperdine University.

Franklin has recently committed to be the pitcher on Pepperdine University’s Division 1 baseball team. He had been talking with other schools, however he settled on Pepperdine University.

“My father went to Pepperdine as a pitcher, so Pepperdine has always been a part of my life. It was always on the top of my lists so it is really surreal,” Franklin said. “I can’t say I saw myself going there when I was little, but my dream was always to stay in California and play for a top notch Division 1 baseball school.”

Franklin was playing a tournament in Arizona for his club team and when Pepperdine University saw him pitch. After the tournament, Franklin toured the campus with the coaches, who then made Franklin an offer to commit to Pepperdine.

“When I was offered by Pepperdine I was extremely excited,” Franklin said. “My dream of playing college baseball had finally come true and it was very surreal. College pitching is extremely competitive, as Pepperdine and other Division 1 schools travel the country and play the best colleges with the best talent.”

Franklin says that there are no specific requirements to stay committed to Pepperdine yet, other than not accepting offers to other colleges. He still plans to do the best he can, and he also wishes to watch a few of Pepperdine’s baseball games.

“I obviously have to stay in shape, do the right things, and continue to get better so I can be successful when I get there,” Franklin said.

Franklin has been on the baseball team since freshman year. He was on varsity baseball during sophomore year, and will continue throughout junior and senior year in high school. Franklin is also in the Garciaparra Baseball Group outside of school, which he has been a part of since his freshman year. There are no practices, just frequent tournaments and games every Sunday.

“My favorite thing is just the opportunity to play and meet some of the best people in my life,” said Franklin. “Through baseball I have made best friends that I will have forever and we all get to play and win together.”

Franklin wishes to go to Pepperdine, not only to follow his father’s footsteps, but also because he fell in love with the campus. He loves California, and is looking forward to staying close to his home in Manhattan Beach.

“I loved everything about it and they are a top notch Division 1 program and I always wanted to stay in California for college so it was a perfect fit, ” said Franklin.

Franklin practices Monday through Friday with games on the weekends and weekdays, adding up to over 15 hours per week. He has high hopes for his future in baseball.

“My dream has always been to play professionally but for now I’m gonna take things step by step and try to get better day by day,” Franklin said.
