The Board of Trustees proposed changes at the Nov. 5 and 19 Manhattan Beach Unified School District Board meetings, to the variety of summer school and online summer school courses that Costa accepts for credit.
As stated by MBUSD Superintendent Dr. Michael Matthews, the current policy lacks specification of what summer school or online courses, taken either on the Costa campus or classes taken outside the district, are accepted for credits. In order to create a more streamlined policy, the board is proposing changes like limiting students to taking one course per department for original credit using an outside agency, summer school or online course in each department during their four years at Costa.
“The Board has a lack of guidance on the Costa transcript, and we seek to clarify this,” Matthews said.
The Board has not made a definitive decision on the proposed changes. It plans to finalize any changes in February. Once approved, the changes will go into effect for all Costa students but will not be retroactive for past classes.
“These changes are focused on ensuring student course work is appropriately recognized on their transcript,” Board of Trustees President Karen Komatinsky said.
