After a successful season, Mira Costa Marching Band placed fourth at the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association Marching Band Championship on Nov. 22 at Warren High School in Torrance.
They performed against 11 teams in the 4A division. They received second place at a previous competition at Sierra Vista High School in Baldwin Park in order to qualify for the Championships.
“They performed at the best of their current abilities,” Band Director Joel Carlson said. “I couldn’t have asked for more.”
At the Championships, Marching Band received a final score of 85.20 out of 100. The judges scored each band on its marching, music quality and visuals.
“We worked extremely hard throughout the season, and all our hard work was reflected in our score,” flautist sophomore Emily Chase said.
Although Marching Band’s season is over, it will participate in the Disneyland Parade on Jan. 10 and the Little League Parade in March.
“We have definitely grown into a fantastic ensemble,” Chase said. “I hope we do as well at the parades as we have done on our past performances.”
