Mira Costa’s orchestra program will perform classical and holiday music tonight at 7 p.m. in the Costa Auditorium for its annual Winter Concert.
At the concert, the Philharmonic Orchestra will perform first, followed by the Chamber Orchestra. The Symphony Orchestra will then finish the show.
“I am really excited to share our amazing sounds with the audience,” Orchestra director Peter Park said. “The audience members will be transported by the quality of music they hear.”
The Philharmonic Orchestra plans to play the themes from Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony “Shalom Chaverim” and the Symphony Orchestra will perform “Symphony Number 5” Movements II and IV by
Shostakovich and “A Christmas Festival” by Leroy Anderson. The Chamber Orchestra will play “The Bells of Christmas” by Larry Moore, and the Philharmonic will play “Shalom Chaverim”.
“It’s exciting to be tackling professional-level pieces in a high school-level orchestra,” senior violinist Bella St. Ivany said.
Admission to the concert is $10 for adults and free for Costa students and senior citizens.
“We have very high-level performances to help students gain new knowledge,” Park said. “The pieces are challenging but developmentally reasonable.”
