The Mira Costa Associated Student Body held the Homecoming Dance, StageCosta, last Saturday at 7:30 in the Fisher Gym.
ASB voted on a range of themes but ultimately decided on StageCosta as an homage to the country festival Stagecoach. ASB started its ticket sales on Oct. 1 and sold 380 tickets.
“We wanted to do homecoming a little differently this year, and after our success with Sadie Hawkins last spring, we decided to make the dance casual,” ASB Homecoming Coordinator senior Kristen Reed said. “We feel that the casual dress code helped increase the success of our dance.”
According to ASB advisor Lisa Claypoole, ASB spent around 10 hours setting up for the Homecoming Dance, not including the additional time they spent crafting decorations to cover Fisher Gym.
“We put a lot of work into decorating, but it definitely payed off because the gym ended up looking amazing,” ASB member junior Kit Chavers said. “I thought it was worth it, and I hope others felt the same.”
The dance was full of country-themed games and props, like cornhole, a type of bean bag toss, and Western backdrops for photo taking. ASB also hired a DJ from Vox Productions and provided refreshments, ranging from fruit and vegetable platters to cookies.
“I spent most of the time on the dance floor because the DJ was awesome and all of my friends participated in the games,” freshman Georgia Wedbush said. “It was smart to include games and picture backdrops because it gave us a variety of things to do.”
For entertainment, ASB showed the Homecoming Court video, and the court did its dance from the pep rally on Friday. Then, to top off the night, there was a slow dance
between the king and queen, Jack Allen and Sarah Kennedy.
“I think that Homecoming was really efficient this year,” senior Cole Riddle said. “Jack and Sarah, as well as the other members of Homecoming Court, were all qualified nominees for king and queen. The festivities were entertaining, and every couple added their own spice into the mix.”
