Ed Council looks to revise ethics policy

Costa’s Education Council will meet Tuesday to further discuss the proposed revision of the ethics policy after Principal Dr. Ben Dale sent out a revised ethics policy on Jan. 2 for teachers to review, critique and send back to Ed Council for a final revision.

The proposed ethics policy has been modified by categorizing each consequence with the letter “a” or “t” to indicate whether an administrator or teacher should carry out the consequence.
“The new policy is more effective because it’s clear for teachers to decide who is responsible for certain steps,” science teacher Trevor Oystrick said.

The way that discipline is administered currently will remain the same in the new policy by operating on a cumulative point system over the course of a student’s four-year high school career. However, Ed Council altered the ethics policy content to cover modern cheating methods, specifically having to do with technology.

“The ethics policy is a good policy and sends a message that you should not cheat,” Dale said.
