During Costa’s third annual Midway Day Tuesday, students and teachers had the opportunity to teach their peers about one of their skills or passions outside of school or not taught in school.
According to Costa Vice Principal Deborah Hofreiter, the purpose of Midway Day is for students to show off their creative talents to their fellow students. For students to obtain a spot in a class, students had to sign up online during finals week.
“I personally think that Midway Day is a great idea because I like to see students use their strengths,” Hofrieter said.
Students had the option to choose from a variety of 60 different classes, which ranged from Beyonce 101 to Introduction to Dictatorship.
“Getting to teach my peers and some older dancers was a wonderful experience,” junior Beyonce 101 teacher Rachel Kay said.
According to Hofreiter, in 2011 Sir Ken Robinson, an advisor on education, came to speak to the Costa faculty about ways to incorporate a more creative atmosphere at school; this inspired the administration to start Midway Day.
“In my opinion, there are so many times when kids have talents and skills that they are not able to show at school unless there is a day like this,” Hofreiter said.
