Over Costa’s Winter Break, a thus-far unidentified thief vandalized the construction yard and stole several items from Mrs. Wachell’s English classroom.

Both the Manhattan Beach Police Department and Mira Costa campus security staff have no leads yet on who the suspect may be. The investigation will be continue until the subject is found.

“When I left for Break, I locked my door and made sure that it was firmly shut. However, I do not know who was in my classroom after I left,” Wachell said.

The lock on Wachell’s door was insufficient because it had to have pressure placed on it from the outside after it was closed to ensure that the locking mechanism would function properly. There is a possibility that, after Wachell had left, a person entered the room who neglected to lock the door properly. There were no signs of forced entry

“I will talk with the administration about possible ways to secure the door and improve the locking mechanism so this does not happen again.” Wachell said.

As for the construction site, the intruder(s) moved progress on the construction project by destroying prior work the that would have otherwise been finished during Winter Break.

“We will have campus security during Breaks from now on.” principal Ben Dale said.
