Mira Costa seniors Gunner Robinson and David Lopez find their solitude in a sanctuary quite unlike anything else. Nestled away in the outskirts of the South Bay is their safe haven: an obstacle-filled building named Tempest Academy.
Tempest Academy specializes in teaching freerunning, which is the art of getting from one spot to another in the most efficient way possible. Robinson and Lopez have developed their freerunning skills all throughout high school at the academy, perfecting maneuvers on foam and soft surfaces before bringing them onto the concrete and asphalt of the urban world.
Along with being an extreme form of exercise, freerunning has brought Lopez and Robinson intangible rewards: a stress-free environment that puts distance between individuals and their academic studies, builds unique skills, and fosters a sense of camaraderie.
