The Mira Costa Vocal Ensemble is currently in Salt Lake City, Utah to perform at the National American Choral Directors Association. The ACDA hosts the conference every other year. This year, the ACDA chose over 30 choirs from the all across America to perform this year.
“It felt great to be invited to the ACDA,” Choir Teacher Michael Hayden said. “We have worked extremely hard to get here and I know we will do well.”
The Vocal Ensemble has been preparing for the conference since September. The Vocal Ensemble has also met with the Westminster Choir College and its Director, Dr. Joe Miller, to finalize its sound for the performance.
“I think we are well prepared because we have been rehearsing all semester,” senior Kendall Dominguez said. “We also have had the opportunity to have other conductors work with us and that helps so much because we get a whole new perspective.”
Songs that the Vocal Ensemble will perform include ‘Awake O North Wind’by Pinkham, ‘O Vos Omnes’ by Victoria, and ‘It is Well With My Soul’ by Spafford.
“I have so much confidence in this group and I know that we are going to have so much fun at the convention,” Dominguez said. “Everyone is so important to the choir and everyone adds something great.”
During the conference, the Vocal Ensemble will perform at many famed choir halls, including the Salt Lake Tabernacle and Abravanel Hall. The ensemble will be performing on Wednesday, February 25 in the Tabernacle at 2:00 p.m. and at Abravanel Hall at 5:00 p.m..
“We have 29 talented and amazing people in this choir and I have no doubt that we will do our best,” Dominguez said.
