Drama president senior Julia McDermott and vice president senior Elizabeth Hartman hosted the event. Students performed various acts ranging from dance and monologues to Comedy Sportz skits and vocal performances.
“I think the show turned out really well thanks to all the great performers, crew and audience members,” McDermott said.
The Drama Department held after-school practices to prepare for the show, in which the Comedy Sportz team reviewed its improv games.
“We played the game of ‘My Movie,’ where we create titles of movies and then we recreate the movies based upon those titles,” Comedy Sportz manager senior Charlie Durham said. “The whole show went really well. It was cool to see some drama members perform skits on stage for the very first time.”
According to McDermott, the purpose of the show is to showcase the Drama Department while simultaneously raising money for an AIDS cure. All proceeds benefit the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS organization, a non-profit charity that awards annual grants to more than 450 AIDS and family service organizations nationwide.
The Costa Drama Department raised over $500 for the organization through ticket sales and refreshments.
“The show was a great success, and I am sad this was the last benefit show I am able to perform in,” senior Armance Sherman said.
