Needing to capitalize off of Inglewood High School’s upset win over Redondo High School, the Mira Costa High School Mustangs took on the PV Peninsula High School Panthers on Tuesday, Feb. 3. The Panthers took a big hit to Costa’s Bay League title chances, defeating the Mustangs 67-55.
The game didn’t start or end well for the Mustangs. Despite an 11-11 record, the Panthers’ offense dominated. Senior Mickey Babek and Kurt Milch combined for 32 points total. Costa’s Dylan Kim pulled the Mustangs within one, scoring Costa’s last nine points.
Unfazed, Peninsula caught fire in the third quarter, putting up 21 points and sealing a 67-55 upset over Costa. Kim finished with 22 points.
The Mustangs now find themselves as less than likely candidates to win Bay League, and stand at 4-3. The Mustangs will face Inglewood at Mira Costa on Thursday, February 5th.
