For the first time ever, Olympic snowboarder Shaun White’s Air+Style was hosted at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles. Originally held in Beijing and Innsbruck, the action sports competition and concert debuted in the United States during the weekend of Feb. 21-22.
Air+Style is a youth culture experience, blending the excitement of witnessing the best snowboarders and skiers in the world showcase their abilities. Olympic snowboarders like Stale Sandbech and the host, Shaun White, attended the event. Wildly popular and talented artists such as Kendrick Lamar, The Flaming Lips, Steve Aoki and Diplo performed on the main stage in front of thousands of fans.
Snowboarders and skiers are tasked with riding down a 16-story high ramp, gaining enough momentum to launch them over a large space in between the landing slope. In the process of clearing the space, with a protective net underneath, boarders and skiers have the opportunity to showcase their aerodynamic abilities.
Day 1’s snowboarding competition was won by Japan’s Yuki Kadono. Canada’s Sebastien Toutant and Norway’s Stale Sandbech came in a respective second and third place. The jubilant snowboarders celebrated with popping champagne bottles and posing at the podium. Day 2’s snowboarding competition was cut short due to pouring rain, but Gus Kensworthy was crowned the champion of that event. Sandbech took the title of Tour Champion, and now brandishes a ring to prove it.
