After the Mustangs’ loss to Redondo in CIF Finals, they qualified for CIF State playoffs due to their rank. Seeded third, Mira Costa hosted the Westview Wolverines this past Wednesday, March 11th. The 14th ranked Wolverines simply couldn’t keep up with the pace and talent of Mira Costa, who won 59-31.
A 17-4 Mustang lead after the end of the first set the tone for the rest of the game. Leading 30-14 at the half, Mira Costa was able to use their sizeable lead to rest their starters and give their secondary team some playing time. This led to a balanced performance by nearly every Lady Mustang – all but two players on the roster put up at least four points. However, it was the defense that won this game for Mira Costa, holding the Wolverines to a dismal 31 points in a 59-31 victory.
Allie Navarette led the Mustangs with 10 points, joining with AlexaUnderwood’s 7 points to lead the offensive attack. A stifling defense was led by Underwood’s three blocks and Keilani Ikehara’s 8 steals. Energized and determined, the Mustangs will take on the 6th seeded Santa Barbara Dons on Saturday, March 14th at 6pm at Fisher Gymnasium.
