Advanced Dance held its annual “Dancing with the Teachers, TBT Edition” on March 5, where various Costa teachers and staff performed different dances to raise money for dance class.
Academic support counselor Keshia Fields and science teacher Karl Kurz won first place for their tap number.
“This was definitely the highlight of my school year so far,” Kurz said. “I think what set our dance apart from the other numbers was the crowd-pleasing song with a nice beat.”
Two teachers performed in each of the six dances with other dance class members. The groups performed dances from different eras including the 1920s, ‘30s, ‘40s, ‘70s, ‘90s and 2000s.
“Everyone was excited and confident on stage, so our numbers ran as planned,” dance team member sophomore Maddy Wagner said. “Overall the show was a hit. It was fun seeing teachers outside of the classroom having fun.”
Principal Dr. Ben Dale, English teacher Quincy Howerton, dance teacher Yvonne Johnson and art teacher Valerie Park judged the competition. According to Howerton, the judges looked for technique and enthusiasm.
Math teachers Andrea Collicutt and Jamison Hughes took second place for their dance to LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem,” and English teacher Stefani Owen and math teacher Daniel Debevec won third place for their dance to the “Austin Powers” theme song.
“The show was a great experience,” Collicutt said. “I think what set the first-place dance apart from ours was their intricate dance moves and how they executed them.”
