WASC evaluates school functioning

From March 23 to 25, members of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges visited Mira Costa to assess the school for state-wide standards and grant accreditation.

The WASC committee makes a full visit once every six years if a school is deemed to be on the “gold standard” as Mira Costa previously was. Staff prepared upwards of a year for this visit by writing a brief of school functioning, monitoring campus cleanliness, and preparing the self study program.

“Everyone at Costa did a great job in preparing for this visit,” principal Dr. Dale said.

The WASC committee usually grants Costa 1-6 years before their next visit. They have not officially given Costa their evaluation.

“Mira Costa did a phenomenal job during all phases of the WASC process,” vice principal Marianne Ramos said. “Mr. MacAvin and Mr. Zeoli were excellent coordinators. Dr. Dale continued to demonstrate what it means to be a strong and inspiring leader.”
