The Mira Costa swim team competed in their second swim meet of the season on March 17, at home, against Palisades Charter High School. The boys lost 115-55 and the girls lost 101-69.
The Mira Costa Girls 400 yard relay team took first with a time of 3:50.02 lead by freshman Sophie Kuehler, sophomore Shannon O’Brien, freshman Mona Stone, and sophomore Katie Barnhill.
“The girls 400 yard freestyle relay team made the CIF consideration cut,” junior Carter Sprouse said. “However, the Palisades win CIF a lot and they usually do well every year. They have a good program and they are the team to beat.”
Costa also placed second in the 200 yard freestyle relay and the 400 yard freestyle relay for the boys. The group is lead by sophomore Mark Warnecke, junior Mikey Portis, junior Nate Griffith and junior Ian Campbell. They timed in at 3:28.35 for the 400 yard relay and 1:34.26 for the 200 yard relay.
“We did not give our best performance and feel that we could have executed towards the end better,” Portis said. “Despite the second place finish, there were certain things I did that may have kept me from doing my absolute best.”
The team will swim against Huntington high school on March 19 at home.
