The only hot tub time machine needed from this film is one to get the 93 minutes back spent watching “Hot Tub Time Machine 2.”
With a confusing story, limited humor, and underdeveloped characters, “Hot Tub Time Machine 2” horribly fails as a sequel to the first.
Directed by Steve Pink, “Hot Tub Time Machine 2” follows Lou (Rob Corrdy), Nick (Craig Robinson), Jacob (Clark Duke), and Adam (Adam Scott) who have traveled 10 years into the future using a time machine. The group of friends travels into the future to search for Lou’s unknown killer from the past and stop him from killing Lou.
“Hot Tub Time Machine 2”s few crude jokes are a disappointment. For example, they attempt to portray rape as a form of comedy. The sardonic jokes and remarks were the only form of comedy throughout the whole film, and even these did not deliver laughs.
“Hot Tub Time Machine 2” fails because of the tiresome and convoluted storyline elaborate. Quick scene changes between the past and future create confusion throughout the film, making the story difficult to keep up with.
The underdeveloped characters are yet another dull aspect to this film. The characters are very stagnant due to the one-dimensional characters created by the original script.
In addition, the film is tedious due to its lack of action. Although this film is meant to be a comedy, the few jokes leave viewers disappointed and bored. The journey to find Lou’s murderer is exhausting because of the minimal action and comedy.
Overall, this film is a waste of 93 minutes because the comedy is lacking jokes and the underdeveloped plot and characters are bland. The boring and repetitive film is a complete failure compared to the previous “Hot Tub Time Machine”.
“Hot Tub Time Machine 2” is rated “R” and is currently playing in theaters nationwide.
