Winter Formal, Sadie Hawkins, Homecoming and Prom are just few of the many opportunities that teenage girls nationwide get to “feel like a Princess.” However Mira Costa junior, Rubie Amaya-Yanez takes her passion for getting “dolled up” to the next level at the National American Miss Pageant.
Ever since Rubie was five years old, she had always dreamed of competing in beauty pageants and aspired to compete in Miss America Competitions as an adult in order to spread the concept that there is inner and outer beauty within everyone.
“I enjoy going and competing in beauty pageants because of all of the internship and job opportunities it opens up for me in addition to the all of the amazing other candidates I get to meet,” Rubie said. “Overall these pageants give me a huge confidence booster, especially when I’m walking on stage and a whole crowd of people are cheering for me.”
Rubie earned the title of National American Miss Regional Finalist on Feb 2015 and will be competing to become the Miss California representative on Jul. 17, 2015 in Orange County, California.
The winner of the regional pageant will receive a cash prize of $1000, an official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses and air transportation to compete at nationals held at Disneyland in California.
“I am extremely proud of my daughter for putting her whole heart, body, and mind on the stage all over California,” mother Briseida Yanez said. “Although she is not the typical model, it is truly unparalleled how she is pursuing her dreams in the show business world and at the same time advocating and standing up for her beliefs.”
The National American Miss pageants are designed for “Today’s girls” and “Tomorrow’s leaders.” The pageant program is based on inner beauty, as well as poise and presentation, and offers an “all American spirit of fun for family and friends.”
“I think that it is absolutely remarkable how an everyday student can participate and achieve the highest in all types of extra curricular activities like this,” Spanish teacher Patricia Guerrero said. “I hope that the Costa community looks at Rubie as a role model and example of a true manifestation of courage and leadership.”
Amaya plans to become a judge after high school as well as become a coach to help other young women achieve their goals through the Young American Miss program. Additionally, Rubie hopes eto continue competing and spreading her ideals on the beauty within all in future competitions.
“If I am lucky enough to win at the national level I hope to assist my family in funding my higher education,” Amaya said. “Overall my experiences participating in beauty pageants has taught me to be more social, conduct myself in a professional manner, and see the uniqueness and beauty in all.”
