After a final report from the Western Association of School and Colleges was submitted to Costa after its visit in March, Principal Dr. Ben Dale believes the committee will grant Costa a six-year accreditation.
WASC’s 50-page final report included suggestions for Costa to better the respect, professionalism and trust among all its members to ensure that Costa will achieve a higher level of student performance.
“The committee’s remarks will undoubtedly be beneficial in many ways,” English teacher and WASC co-coordinator Alan Zeoli said. “No matter how successful a school is, it is always helpful to get the perspective from outsiders.”
Accreditation from WASC is recognition awarded to trustworthy learning centers across the western United States.
A six-year accreditation status, the highest form of accreditation, indicates that Costa is a trustworthy school.
“We have to go through the accreditation process, but it is a good opportunity for us to take a look at ourselves and see what our strengths are and what our challenges are,” Costa Principal Dr. Ben Dale said.
If granted this accreditation, Costa will turn in a mid-cycle progress report in three years that will provide updated information on Costa’s efforts to continue to improve.
WASC will write a letter formally informing Costa of its official status of accreditation in the fall.
“At the end of the visit, WASC was overall impressed by our students and impressed by our school,” Dale said.
