Costa’s People Attaining Complete Equality hosted its second Holocaust Assembly on April 17 in which Holocaust survivor Irene Mausner spoke to inform students about her experience with the Holocaust.
According to PACE president Gillian Searer, PACE decided to host this assembly because many students have heard about stories of the Holocaust through literature but have not heard stories from survivors themselves.
“We wanted to do another Holocaust assembly this year because of how successful it was last year,” Searer said. “It is important to share these amazing survival stories with the students.”
Mausner is the grandmother of PACE member junior Samantha Mausner, who recommended she tell her story for the assembly.
“There are not many Holocaust survivors left, and I was happy to be available to come here and talk about how the cultural and life was back then,” Irene Mausner said.
Irene Mausner talked about life prior to the Holocaust and how it affected her. She went into detail about the struggles she had to overcome and added how her life was different after the Holocaust.
“The idea was to help students think and realize how the prejudice of one group can impact the human race,” PACE teacher Dr. Rocky Wilson said.
