The Costa Choir, Robbinsdale Cooper High School from Minnesota and Bethel High School from Washington performed songs for each other on March 27 and 30 at Costa.
The two choral departments visited from out of state. In addition to visiting Costa, the choirs performed for other Southern California schools.
“It was great for the Costa choir to see choirs from other places in the country so we can learn how other choirs sound compared to ours,” choir teacher Michael Hayden said.
The Advanced Women’s Choral performed songs such as “Hexenlied,” by Mendelssohn, and “Ain’t I a Women,” written by Sojourner Truth, for the visiting choirs. Vocal Ensemble performed “L‘Ultima Canzone” and “Flying with Disney.”
“Although both choirs were so different, their performance offered us new things to learn,” senior Malia Elson said.
On May 1, the Mira Costa Multicultural Choir is performing with other high school choirs from all over California at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles.
“The concert is important to give the kids the opportunity to perform at such a large venue,” senior James Olivas said. “I think the choir will learn to follow different conducting styles and also make friends among the other choirs.”
