Costa’s spring musical, “Thoroughly Modern Millie”, presented by the Drama Dept., will open tonight at 7:30 pm in the Costa auditorium.

The musical tells the story of a small town girl, Millie Dillmount, who travels to New York City to marry rich. According to Drama teacher Carol Mathews, the Department chose this play because the large amount of female roles available in it accommodate the gender disparity with the department.

“Thoroughly Modern Millie has been done a number of times throughout the South Bay and I think it will come out to be a fun show for us,” Mathews said.

Cameron Boyer, Calyssa Frankel, James Olivas and Hadley Thomas play lead roles in the production as Jimmy, Miss Dorothy Brown, Millie Billmount, Trevor and Mrs. Meers respectively.

“It is bittersweet that this is my last Costa drama production and I hope to go out with a bang,“ senior Julia McDermott said. “This department has been my home for the past four years and every show has been filled with wonderful laughter and memories that I have a special place in my heart for.”

Thoroughly Modern Millie consists of  a variety of musical numbers including fast tempo tap and jazz routines.  The cast began practice these routines, stage setting, vocals, and acting in late January.  Dress rehearsals began on April 18 and were held every day after school this week until 10pm.

Tickets are available for purchase at the door, or for presale for $10 for students and $15 for adults. At the door, tickets cost $12 for students and $18 for adults.

“I am so excited to see the spring musical,” sophomore Robin Wilson said. “I have seen it publicized all over town and think it will be a great performance.”
