Comedy Central has always taken the initiative to make fun of hapless celebrities in their infamous Roasts, and this time, Comedy Central struck a blow to “beliebers” everywhere with The Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber.
Anyone who’s ever watched a Comedy Central roast knows what to expect from one: pain; tears; remorse; and Jeff Ross’s bloated face. Every celebrity that appears on the dais of a roast knows they’re walking into the lion’s den. To be the roasted of a roast one has to either be brave or stupid; most of the time stupid, and Justin proves this to be true.
The Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber assembled a dais of comedians that includes Hannibal Buress, Chris D’Elia, Snoop Dogg, Natasha Leggero, Ludacris, Shaquille O’Neal, Jeff Ross, Martha Stewart and Roast Master Kevin Hart. Their plan? To hold one of the world’s biggest teen idols over an open flame.
Since roasting began, it’s consisted of the same components. It’s consisted of a Roast Master, this time being, as the dais put it, “black child actor,” Kevin Hart. It’s consisted of a dais of “has been” celebrities, as Justin put it. It’s consisted of the man of the hour himself, this time being the “feminine lesbian” Justin Bieber, as the dais put it. And it’s consisted of the indomitable Jeffrey Ross.
Out of the 9 celebrities on the dais, not one failed at calling out Justin and their fellow roast members for their flaws. From the primarily black dais making jokes about how racist Martha Stewart is, to the whole dais making fun of how much Justin resembles a girl; this comedy was pure, uncensored gold. No one gave any slack to anyone on the dais. One of the comedians on the dais, SNL’s own Pete Davidson, lost his father from 9/11, and used his dad’s death to make fun of the terrible job of raising Justin that Justin’s dad did.
Besides the hilariously dirty jokes from the roast, some interesting things also happened. After the first commercial break, the roast returns with Kevin Hart dressed as a priest singing with a choir, leading to Justin Bieber being dropped from the air while wearing angel wings; scaring Jaden Smith, who was in the audience. Another interesting event that transpired was the sudden appearance of Ron Burgandy near the end of the roast, acknowledging Justin for his “spunk, flair, and few other STDs.” Perhaps the most surprising and interesting event that took place during the roast was the appearance of Dave Chappelle in the audience, looking extremely good.
Overall, this roast has brought comedy and roasting to a whole new level of funny, and for this, we have to say thanks in part to the dais of hilarious comedians, and thanks in part to Justin, for being the feminine clown he is, and allowing us to further ruin his reputation. At the end of the roast, however, Justin denounced the roast and admitted his past mistakes, and declared that he is looking forward to the future where he can right his wrongs, and show the world he can be the good man everybody believes he can be.
The Comedy Central Roast of Justin Bieber aired on March 30 on Comedy Central at 9/10 central.
