Mustangs water polo won the 41st annual Henry Stuart South Bay Tournament over the first weekend of October, marking the third year in a row that the Mustangs have won this tournament.
The water polo team’s record stands at 8-3 after sweeping the tournament and defeating Bay League rival Peninsula in the championship game with a score of 13-8.
The Mustangs also won their game against Torrance by a score of 10-3. Tournament victories included beating South Pasadena by a slim margin (two goals), and Santa Monica by a score of 8-4.
The best two performances of the tournament for Costa came from three seniors: Jake Miller, Joe Siltanen, and Dana Tuttle. Tuttle had a combined 38 saves in four games, and Miller was unrelenting against his opponents, scoring 20 goals. Siltanen was named the tournament MVP for his excellent play.
The Mustangs’ next game is a rematch of last year’s final CIF game. Mira Costa will host Palos Verdes on Tuesday, Oct. 5. This will be Costa’s first Bay League game of the season.
