Sequels are never as entertaining as the original film, but “Avengers: Age of Ultron” comes as close as it gets, a thrilling second film in the Avengers series.
With an engaging plot, a talented cast and dazzling special effects, “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” directed by Joss Whedon, lives up to all expectations for a sequel to an extraordinary Marvel film.
The Avengers superhero team must come together once again after Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) peacekeeping initiative to protect the world goes terribly wrong, and an evil artificial intelligence named Ultron (James Spader) is created.
The Avengers must stop the genocidal Ultron, who will not quit until the entire human race is extinct. With the help of the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the rest of the team, Stark battles to beat his own creation.
The film is gripping throughout, but it is especially captivating during its action-packed fight scenes. Whedon perfectly captures every strike, making each hit significant and thrilling.
The film’s special effects make it a captivating experience. Every explosion and battle is shot with pinpoint precision. Whedon takes multiple angles for every fight scene, showing different views to make every second engaging.
In addition, the judicious use of slow motion makes every move impressive and fluid and demonstrates the intensity of the entire film.
However, the constant fighting and violence is sharply contrasted by the romantic scenes between Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hulk, which give the film a softer side.
With a cast full of A-list actors, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is full of personality. Each member brings his own unique style to the film, whether it is Downey Jr.’s cool and witty comments, Hemsworth’s strength and passion or Evans’ discipline and righteousness.
In addition, one of the upsides of this film is the witty comments and jokes between characters. Iron Man’s haughty antics, Black Widow’s sly comments and Thor’s ridiculous jokes add a playful side to the film, making it more than just action.
Although many of the battle scenes are mesmerizing, some of them are overdone and lengthy, causing the film to become a chaotic bundle of action that makes it hard to distinguish one fight from the next.
“Avengers: Age of Ultron” is not as exhilarating as the first film but still manages to impress through its celebrity-filled cast and mind-blowing special effects.
“Avengers” is rated PG-13 and playing in theaters nationwide.
