Mira Costa’s hockey team won its first game of the play offs against Beverly Hills 8-3, on Monday at the Toyota Sports Center.
Beverly Hills scored the first goal of the game but the Mustangs responded with a goal, ending the first period tied. For the remainder of the game, Costa dominated with seven goals and Beverly Hills only two. Sophomore Bryce Tournat, junior Austin Bowkus, and junior Ryan Ng each scored twice.
“We played one of our best games of the season tonight,” sophomore Chris Brown said. “Everyone played well and did their best. However, tomorrow we need to improve our defense.”
Costa takes on Redondo for the next round of play offs Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. Redondo and Costa’s current overall record is identical, eight wins, two losses and one tie.
“I expect a tight game against Redondo,” junior Wyatt Light said. “If we have a strong start, we will be successful. The game against Beverly Hills gave us a lot of confidence.”
