The school administration and the Manhattan Beach Unified School District selected Kristin Wolberg and Karina Gerger as the two new replacement vice principals after former Vice Principals Ian Drummond’s and Marianne Ramos’s resignation from their positions at Mira Costa High School.
The two were interviewed for the position shortly before the start of the school year by a panel consisting of certificated teachers, staff, parents, district members and Costa Principal Ben Dale. Prior to this year, Wolberg taught at Manhattan Beach Middle School as an eighth grade English teacher for six years and Gerger served as the assistant principal of Manhattan Beach Middle School for one year.
“It’s great that here I now get to see so many students I taught before at MBMS,” Wolberg said. “So, it really felt like home to come to Costa on the first day and see all of them as well as meet students I had never met before.”
Wolberg will work within the technology department at Costa and with MBUSD’s Professional Development, a district program that works to aid teachers in utilizing technology in their classrooms. Gerger will be working as a guidance counselor and will be responsible for students’ Powerschool schedules.
“In my role, I will be primarily responsible for supporting students through the guidance counseling office, master scheduling and PowerSchool,” Gerger said. “I am excited to join the Mira Costa team, and I definitely plan to stay a Mustang.”
