Mira Costa’s girls tennis team headed to Stanford University on Friday to play in the Golden State tournament against other teams outside of bay league. The team defeated Saratoga High School 3-0, then lost to Menlo High School, 1-2.

According to freshman tennis player Bella Butcha, the competition was fierce. Singles player freshman Taylor Johnson was the top performer. On Friday she defeated every single player she faced and won two of her games, 6-0.

“Johnson is one of our best singles players,” said Butcha. “She tries very hard in practices and it definitely pays off in the games.

On Saturday the Mustangs play at Stanford University again. According to junior Jacky Soliman, the team is very determined to come out victorious in its matches on Saturday. So far this season, the Mustangs are 4-1 overall and 3-0 in bay league.

“Although our team lost one of our matches today, it ended in a tiebreaker and was very close,” said Soliman. “I feel like we can win most if not all of our games on Saturday. Additionally, we were very proud to play at such a prestigious school.”
