The Mira Costa girls golf team claimed another victory, continuing its undefeated streak by beating West Torrance 201-245. The match took place on Tuesday at Chester Washington golf course.
Due to the rain from the previous morning, the course was more difficult to play on than usual. Despite these conditions, the girls had a commanding lead throughout most of the match which led them to pull off another win for the Mustangs.
“I think we all probably could’ve shaved a few strokes off of our rounds yesterday,” senior Marni Murez said. “I think the key to winning was staying patient and not letting the bad shots get to us.”
The girls performance was outstanding against West Torrance. Murez led the Mustangs into the win by shooting a 35, which is one under par. Senior Veronica Chen also helped further the lead by shooting a 39.
“As a team we definitely played pretty solidly,” Marni said. “Even though West Torrance isn’t one of our biggest competitors, we always try to give it our all and do the best we can do.”
Junior Lexi Nielsen and freshman Klara Nagy both shot a 40, contributing to the win against West Torrance. They both hope to continue their undefeated streak.
“We all keep a positive attitude to keep our winning streak,” Nielsen said. “We need to just keep focus on our own games during the match.”
The Mustangs have a 7-0 record so far. West Torrance will be given a chance at redemption tomorrow in Costa’s next game at the Alondra golf course.
“We feel super confident going into tomorrow,” Murez said. “We have a lot of trust in that our practice will pay off on the course, and I know that we are going to win.”
