The Mira Costa girls tennis aced the competition.
The girls tennis team played the Dana Hills Dolphins in a home game on Wednesday. The Mustangs tied Dana Hills, 9-9, but by adding up the game scores to determine the results, the Mustangs got the win. Costa is currently undefeated in Bay League, 3-0, and its overall record is 7-1.
“I was proud that we ended up victorious, especially since Dana Hills is a very skilled and difficult team to beat, but I wish we would have beaten them by more,” junior doubles player Isabella Draskovic said.”
Junior singles player Amy Gaal dominated her opponent and served an ace in the first match of the day, winning 6-0. According to coach Joe Ciasulli, Gaal has been playing consistently well throughout every game this season.
“I was extremely nervous before the game, but once I came into my stride, I was pleased with how the game went,” Gaal said.
Junior doubles players Isabella Draskovic and Katarina Draskovic trailed in their first set, 3-2, but fought back and tied the set, 5-5. The twins won the set, 7-5.
“At the beginning of the game, we had a really hard time because we missed shots that we should easily have made,” Isabella Draskovic said. “After we got accustomed to playing against our opponents, we were hitting all of our shots with confidence, which allowed us to win the match.”
Junior doubles players Maddie Giese and Jackie Soliman ended the day strong, winning the last set, 6-4. They had a rough start because they were losing 3 to 4 in the beginning as their opponents had strong serves. Giese and Soliman persevered and began to improve their game, which enabled them to win the last three games to win the match for Costa.
“We were struggling at the start of the match, but we are so excited and proud that we were able to win the deciding match for Costa,” Soliman said. “Hopefully, we will continue to play well.”
The Mustangs next non-league game was yesterday against Beverly Hills High School, but results were not available due to the time of publication. Beverly Hills’ current record is 0-1 after its recent loss to Palisades.
“This game was packed full of pressure, but I am glad the girls pulled through,” Ciasulli said.
“Overall, I think the team played well, and although the score was extremely close, I was proud.”
