Highly anticipated, Travi$ Scott’s ‘Rodeo’ is a huge let down and merely not worth the hype. After releasing ‘Antidote’ back in June, the new album ‘Rodeo’ was promised and ever since then the hip hop community has been closely following his debut album.
‘Rodeo’ contains a bundle of songs that either just don’t fit in or have no memorable qualities to them. This album is a let down to the listener because it is hard to listen to this album all the way through without wanting to skip half the songs.
Travi$ Scott has built a name for himself by being a great character in the rap community. Recently, He seems to be pulling huge publicity stunts just about every month such as inciting a riot at Lollapalooza earlier this summer. Also, he released two hit singles which set this album up to be a slam dunk, but that didn’t happen.
The two singles that led up to the album, ‘3500’ and ‘Antidote’, were great hits with very original beats and insanely catchy choruses, but they’re better than anything actually on the album.
The album contains a few notable songs such as ‘Maria I’m Drunk’, which features Young Thug and Justin Bieber. the song plays an excellent mix of voices and Bieber unexpectedly sings the chorus and adding great depth to the track. The only problem with this song is that Travi$ seems to be relying on other artists to make his album.
The songs that don’t have any features, such as ‘I Can Tell’ and ‘Impossible’, are ridiculously boring and monotonous which shows that Travi$ Scott needs to be featured with other artists. His voice alone gets tiring over the course of a song especially when his songs don’t have much meaning.
Being his debut album, many fans wanted Travi$ to explain his uprising and meaningful events in his life through music, but most of Travi$’ lyrics are about partying, drugs, or girls. This can be interesting for a few songs, but overall listeners want to get to know Travi$ as an artist.
The beats in this album are all interesting but none are unique. They all contain some aspect of a futuristic tone with an upbeat rhythm. After a few songs, the beat get extremely boring and causes the listener to want to skip many songs.
Travi$ Scott’s voice in this album was awful in many songs because he purposely over auto tunes it so it can go better with the beat. This adds to why his solos get so monotonous because his voice is just the exact same for an entire song.
While Travi$ Scott relies on other artists to make his songs interesting, he has a good selection of features and many of them are paired perfectly. However, the artists over power his own songs and many times the featured artists sing more than Scott.
Overall, ‘Rodeo’ is a disappointment for the amount of hype and anticipation it had and Travi$ Scott could’ve added much more to his songs to stop them from being so monotonous and boring, but didn’t. This album is nothing but a few catchy songs and some big name features. This album is $10.99 and available on ITunes music.
