The Mustangs beat the South Torrance Spartans on Wednesday night to remain undefeated, 3-0.
The Mira Costa girls volleyball team dominated its match against South Torrance at South Torrance High School. The Mustangs won in three games, 25-21, 25-17 and 25-19.
“We played solid in all the games,” junior outside hitter Alexa Underwood said. “In the third game, they bounced back, but we did a good job recovering our lead.”
In the first game, Costa took the first point and was able to hold on to its lead throughout the entire game. Junior middle blocker Alexia Inman had eight kills, leading the Mustangs to victory in the first game, 25-21.
“It wasn’t our best game as a team, and I think we could have played better,” Inman said. “Overall, I think we played very consistently.”
The Mustangs were able to dominate the second game and win, 25-17. Underwood led Costa with seven spikes that were set up by senior setter Erin McCarthy.
“The sets coming from Erin were perfect every single time today,” Underwood said. “We were all really motivated to win the game, and it showed through the results.”
The Mustangs consistantly worked well together with seven kills from junior opposite Britt Bommer as well as two kills by junior outside hitter Amanda Montag during the final game In the third and final game, the Mustangs kept their momentum and finished off the Spartans, 25-19.
“We played a solid game, and it feels good to have kept our winning streak,” Montag said. “Despite this, I think we could improve by consistently coming out with more energy.”
The Mustangs will play in the Durango Tournament in Las Vegas today and tomorrow.
“Everyone played well today and put in their best effort,” Underwood said. “Today’s game was a great warm up for the upcoming tournament we have in Las Vegas.”
