Committing to a college for a sport is a dream for many at Mira Costa High School. Costa student, senior Sam Snyder has recently committed to Boston College for volleyball.

Sam has had dreams of going to a Division one college for volleyball for many years and is very excited that her dream is finally coming true; her family is also very excited for her.

“I’m so excited for her and proud of all the work she has put into volleyball,” Sam’s sister Lily Snyder said. “Boston is a perfect match for Sam and she is going to fit right in.”

Sam’s father Richard Snyder has seen Samantha turn her dreams into a reality first hand and is very proud of what she has accomplished during her years of playing volleyball for Costa.

“I’m really grateful that all the years of hard work have payed off for Samantha,” Richard Snyder said.

Sam’s mother Janiece Snyder also expressed her happiness and is extremely proud of her daughter for reaching her goals and fully supports Sam’s decision to commit to a school on the east coast.

“It’s always been Sam’s goal to go to college on the east coast and we are just so excited for her because it seems like a really great school,” Janiece Snyder said.

It has been Sam’s goal ever since 5th grade, which was her first time playing club volleyball, to go to a Division 1 college and while at times it may not have felt like it, her hard work paid off in the end.

“Unlike a lot of my friends, I’m not 6’3″ or going to be an Olympic player so my commitment process is totally different,” Sam Snyder said. “I constantly have to call the coaches, email updates, and study my butt off.”

Playing division one volleyball isn’t the only reason why Sam chose Boston over any other school. Boston also a medical program that appeals to Sam and many other students across America.

“I’m not the superstar they contact first,” Sam Snyder said. “I’ve put all my focus into finding an east coast academic college, not only has an amazing D1 team, but also has an outstanding medical program that will help prepare me for the years to come.”

The committing process can be long and grueling, no matter how talented the athlete is, and according to Sam perseverance is they key to getting into the college of your dreams.

“Overall the recruiting process is tough, lots of rejection and tears, but it’s shown me a precursor to what the real world is going to be like,” Sam Snyder said. “I’m beyond stoked to be an Eagle.”
