Mira Costa water polo beat Palos Verdes in its first Bay League game Oct. 5 at Palos Verdes in a close and hard-fought game that ended with a score of 6-5.
The Mustangs seized their chance for retribution against Palos Verdes and recovered from last year’s loss in the CIF finals. Mira Costa didn’t miss their opportunity on Tuesday.
The most important play of the game came late in the game when the score was tied 5-5. A player on Palos Verdes, who had been previously ejected, came back into the game illegally. The referee awarded the Mustangs a 5-ter penalty shot, and senior Jake Miller sealed the game by scoring the game-winning goal.
Seniors Joe Siltanen, Dana Tuttle, and Miller were top performers, as Siltanen and Miller both scored two goals and Tuttle made 15 saves during the game.
Costa’s record now stands at 9-3 overall and 1-0 in Bay League. Mira Costa’s next game will be on Oct.7, hosting Montebello.
