On Saturday, the top 20 cross country runners from Mira Costa went to the Seattle Invitational in Seattle, Washington. The race was a 5k in which the girls got second and the boys placed first. Ten schools were present at the meet.
Costa was not approved to compete officially in the meet, and was considered unattached. Costa ran anyways, with junior Melia Chittenden as the top performer for the girls and junior Caleb Llorin as the top performer for the boys. Out of all the schools, Chittenden got seventh and Llorin got fifth in their divisions.
“I had a lot of fun in Seattle,” junior Gaby Guerrero said. “The course was interesting because it was in a forest, and it was a different experience than usual.”
Both the boys and girls are off to a fantastic start this year, especially after placing well in the Ventura and Laguna meets. On Thursday, Costa will be going to Palos Verdes for their first Bay League meet, hosted by Palos Verdes High School.
“I’m really excited for our next meet because our team performed well in Seattle and at Woodbridge,” Chittenden said. “No matter what happens, I know that everyone on this team cares enough to give it everything we have, and I can’t wait to see where our dedication can take us.”
