The Mira Costa girls tennis team lost 15-3 to Peninsula High School, ranked first in California Interscholastic Federation, at home yesterday at 3 p.m. in its fifth Bay League match of the season.
Freshman singles player Taylor Johnson stood out in yesterday’s match, since she defeated her opponent 6-1 and was one of only three players who won a game. Other top players included sophomore singles player Isabelle Lau who won one of her games 7-5.
“The competition was very difficult, but everyone on our team played hard and gave a solid effort,” Johnson said. “I was really proud of our team today, as we played some excellent games.”
The Mustangs’ next match is a non-Bay League match against Marlborough High School, 1-0, at Costa today. Costa’s tennis team is currently 4-1 in Bay League and is 12-2 overall.
“The competition tomorrow (today) will be much easier, and we will have a good chance at winning,” junior tennis player Lena Nagy said. “Our team is full of skill, and we can’t wait to redeem ourselves.”
